25 stars! Big Brother was a wimp!!!

This is a grim, dark, puzzling book. One of the bleakest and most hopeless things I've read.

I love it!

As the name tells you, the twenty-five short stories cover 25 days in the life, which don't begin to approach perfect. The stories tie together, but subtly. I'll read the book again, partly because of its writing, partly so I can sort out the characters. Pay attention to them, because some appear again, from one to several stories after you meet them.

A church called The Way is at the top of the food chain and rules through armed thugs. People meet their maker for bizarre reasons, "making weight," for example. Yes, just as an athlete who is considered too heavy to play in our own world is cut from the team. No one is safe. Why? Either the terminations are capricious, or they are cleaning out those who don't embrace The Way. I think both.

This was a hard book to read but only because I fear what our lives will be like after the government turns on us. But it is a very good book
Didn't really have any idea what the story was about when I started it. Each story is a well written tale in itself and when put together makes a really interesting read. Loved the frustration I felt over and over again against the Way and their religiously blind totalitarianism. You really find yourself rooting for the "good" guys here. Well done
I really like books that are written in unique and different styles. This one certainly is and it is also entertaining. I had a bit a trouble following the intertwining threads which is the only reason I did not give 5 stars. I will definitely read more from this author.

And if you like the way this written I suggest you read Complicity by the late Iain Banks.
a wild ass ride of a novel! very dark & textbook dystopian. a large cast of overlapping characters, all uniquely memorable. there are tales that will fill the reader with shame, hate, love, guilt, & horror aplenty.
one is deeply engaged from the first notes of the shudderingly good 'five minutes alone'. \m/
it's a cliche come true, an unrelenting page turner. a book that will make you think and feel. and one you will never forget.
A fast paced, bleak, frightening look into the future. Loved the characters and how their lives were intimately connected. Couldn't put this book down.
This book takes you into the future where religious zealots have taken over the world. They impose draconian laws over the people to break their spirits. The book has a timeline of over 40yrs and the characters come and go. It is a snapshot of how things changed in this country over time. Freedom is gone. The youth are brain-washed to feel no empathy. But there is a resistance group that tries to overcome the The Way and its abuse of power and the people. The book was ok. It was hard at times to figure out where certain pieces of the puzzle (certain chapters) fit into the overall scheme of the book. A fast read.
The premise of 25 Perfect Days sounded very intriguing, so I decided why not give it a try? The tale is told in 25 intertwining stories, set in a 40-year period from 2036 to 2076. The future is very dystopian, though that's not apparent right away. The harsh world of the book is slowly revealed one piece at a time. The time frame the story encompasses allows the reader to follow several characters' interactions with each other through two and even three generations.

My favorite part of 25 Perfect Days was how the author did not spoon feed the reader everything he/she needs to know. Many things are left up to the reader to infer, and fill in the blanks on his or her own. Some authors go so far out of their way to leave nothing to the reader's imagination that it was a refreshing change.

My least favorite part of 25 Perfect Days was the difficulty at times in keeping the cast of characters straight. Part of that stems from the larger number of characters, and also due to any character not appearing on more than a few pages at a time in a story. However, the author includes a list of the characters at the end of the book; bookmark this section right away, but beware of spoilers when looking at it!

I would recommend 25 Perfect Days to anyone wanting to read a near-future dystopian novel...limit yourself to just one story per day fro 25 days, give yourself time to absorb and think about each story.
