There were a number of reasons that The Last Viking trilogy appealed to me. I was a history major and enjoy historical fiction. I am fascinated by the numerous television series and motion pictures about Vikings currently popular. The Anglo Saxon and Norman invasion period in English history also interests me. This retelling of Norse legend and lore added characters and locations to my knowledge. I guess you could read each volume as a stand alone story, but I highly recommend that all three books be read in sequence.

Viking Geirolf “Rolf” Ericsson travels through time from 997 AD to 1997 AD, where his ship wrecks on the rocky coast of Maine. There he meets Meredith Foster, a college professor building a Viking longship as part of an experimental archaeology project. Rolf helps her build the ship and in the process, he and Meredith fall in love.

This book obviously requires quite a bit of suspension of disbelief. That doesn’t bother me. What did bother me was Meredith. She was annoying. I never understood what Rolf saw in a woman who was a terrible shrew who spent much of the novel saying cruel and demeaning things to him. She also spent an inordinate amount of time crying. And her family was over-the-top dysfunctional.

This book had great potential. The cultural blunders of a Viking in the 20th Century could be humourous. I did laugh a few times while reading. Unfortunately, Meredith spoiled the novel and by the time I was about halfway through, I wanted it to end because I was tired of her attitude. I somehow read the entire book, but I’m not sure why.
The funniest, romantic story ever read so far. Sandra Hill does again! I have read the first 3 books in the Deadly Angels series, and all of the Viking I series. All exceptionally terrific! Along comes The Last Viking. I was embarrassed to read this book in the doctor's office because of a sudden outburst laughter. Sorry Ms Hill, your books are to be read in private. LOVE ALL of your books and bless my !
This book had such a nice premise for a time travel romance. Well, she really is a professor in all things ancient Norse. Why wouldn't a tenth century Viking's talisman take him to her?! And she promised now deceased Grandpa a perfect Viking ship replica. I'm in.
I like this book for the thrills,excitement,love and adventure all rolled up into one. Love reading about viking era which I can almost identify with,Having lived in what referred to as," the country" where everything is home grown,wood stoves etc.
Sandra Hill gives Viking lore a whole new spin in the 20th century!

Love this author's sense of humor and quirky characters. Rolf's perspective on "modern times", Oreos, his obsession with the picture box,(Home Improvement & Martha Stewart) and his companion the voluptuous Ingrid...the wooden woman who saved him *snicker*...had me in stitches. Ingrid might have saved him, but Meredith, "Merry-Death", stole his heart.

A lighthearted time-travel romance with a sweet sexy manly Viking, sizzling character chemistry, and hysterical dialogue. Just roll with it and have a good time!
As always, Sandra Hill does not disappoint! Awesome book! I always look forward to new offerings from Sandra....especially her Viking, Navy Seals and Time Travel Historical romance novels! I can re-read them many, many times over and I never tire of her wit and humor she injects into her books! It is always good to laugh....it keeps us young and feeling alive! The romance doesn't hurt either! Way to go Sandra! Just keep them coming and yes, you can still keep writing about the Vikings and Navy Seals...there are many more we look forward to, as in young Jaimie, the off spring of Rurik,The Blue Viking and Maire. And what about Cage, Slick, FU and Kristin. So many options to write about. As someone who has always loved to write (although, not for profit....just pleasure) I especially appreciate Sandra's writings! Looking forward to her next book!
I took a chance on this book when I borrowed it from the library, and I am so glad I did. The story is a turns lots of laugh out loud moments, and increasingly intense eroticism. Rolf's way of pronouncing words based on his new understanding of modern English, such as "profess-whore" instead of professor, will entertain the reader from start to finish. I'll be buying this book now, as well as the rest in the series.
